To conclude Petter Jacobsson's tenure at the helm of the CCN - Ballet de Lorraine, the CCN is presenting a two-part programme:

After a tour of Avignon in 2023, the CCN returns the invitation and is delighted to welcome the Ballet de l'Opéra Grand Avignon for a unique performance. The Ballet will present D'un Matin de Printemps by choreographer Emilio Calcagno, a choreographic stroll that travels between classical and contemporary dance to the rhythm of music by Ravel, Messiaen, Fauré, Boulanger and Debussy.

The second evening of this programme is intended as a "return to the future", taking one step into the history of dance and the other into choreographic experimentation, as Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley have done at the helm of the CCN - Ballet de Lorraine.

Three pieces will be presented, each revisiting certain eras of dance and the futuristic visions of its choreographers.

Fugitive Archives by Latifa Laâbissi is a piece for eight dancers, a choreographic collage in which the ghosts of the past mix and collide, the meeting of Hijikata Tatsumi's Butō with Jean Börlin's Les Marchands d'oiseaux and the Swedish Ballet. The result is a dance that is troubled, funny, intriguing, grotesque and disturbing.

With Mesdames et Messieurs, we remain in the world of the Swedish Ballet, with Petter Jacobsson and Thomas Caley revisiting Francis Picabia's cheeky Cinésketch. The duo have come up with a joyously offbeat piece that draws on the codes of burlesque cinema and the eccentric costumes of Parisian soirées in the Roaring Twenties.

Finally, the last historical journey will take you to Merce Cunningham and his futuristic piece CRWDSPCR (pronounced "crowdspacer"). This pioneering work, created in 1993 and presented for the first time in Nancy, is based on choreography created using Life Form computer software developed especially for Merce Cunningham. A first step towards this new technology for a choreographer who never stopped looking to the future.
