Sans tambour

With Robert Schumann's Liederkreis opus 39

10 – 12 Jan 2023

And my soul spread
its wings wide open,
flew across the calm country,
on tis way homewards.

Sans tambour

Samuel Achache's new work begins with a collapse. A couple separates and their separation causes the collapse of an entire house before our eyes. What else can they do but sing a Schumann Lied, accompanied by a piano that miraculously survived the disaster?

Unlike the symphony, which focuses on entirety, the Lied concentrates on fragments and miniature. This idea seduced Samuel Achache and his musician-actors. Together, they plunge into the subjective images inspired by Schumann's Liederkreis, intermingled with stage compositions, under the baton of Florent Hubert. Sans Tambour leads us on a journey through one of the most beautiful landscape-cycles of German romanticism, haunted by nostalgia and separation.

A key figure and iconoclast of musical theatre today, Samuel Achache founded his company La Sourde in 2021, inaugurating a new phase in his artistic research between theatre and music.
