For the first time, this training seminar is being co-organised by Lorraine National Opera and the Chantiers Nomades, an adult training organisation dedicated to research and continuing education.
This particular Chantier Nomades programme brings together professional artists who will analyse opera scenes, arias or recitatives, and offer an in-depth exploration of the essentials of performing and directing.
To our immense pleasure, opera is a genre that combines the written word with music. Working on an opera implies confronting a libretto and a score and the turbulent relationship that constantly exists between the two. What is the nature of that relationship? How can we understand it?
This training seminar is intended for professional artists: It is for singers who wonder about acting and the relationship between the body, the mind, breathing, voice and music; or for directors who would like to explore the possibilities offered by working on stage with the singers.
Jean-Yves Ruf is an author, an actor, and a director at both the theatre and the opera. He is also a renowned teacher with an unquenchable thirst for sharing and dialogue. He is driven by the certainty that art is more intense when we ask ourselves major questions rather than cobbling together small solutions.
